WATCHING JUDE LAW

WATCHING JUDE LAW

I’m tired of Oscar Wilde, but Brian Gilbert’s film about him is intelligent, sensitive and entertaining.

Hey Jude!

Hey Jude!

Jude Law has created so many rounded characters of genuine depth, how do you choose his best characterization?  His portrayal in Wilde as Lord Alfred Douglas is certainly one of his finest.  He captures the childishness and shallowness and attractiveness of the historical figure as re-created by writer Julian Mitchell and director Brian Gilbert.  He stands out among several outstanding performances:  Michael Sheen, Jennifer Ehle, Stephen Fry, Tom Wilkinson (a complete sonofabitch as Queensberry), Judy Parfitt and Vanessa Redgrave.
