Tomorrow July 3 Turner Classic Movies begins its month-long celebration of the career of Leslie Howard. Tomorrow’s program includes one of the best movies ever made about making movies: STAND-IN. In addition there is THE FIRST OF THE FEW (also known as SPITFIRE) which Howard directed. The evening begins at 8:00 with the four hours of GONE WITH THE WIND. At the time of THE WIND Howard was such a big “American” star that he received second billing, behind only Clark Gable. In later re-release prints Vivien Leigh’s billing was altered, moving Howard down one notch.
